About

Phyllis Dolobowsky, Paintings

I was born in Brooklyn and have lived in the Bronx, Manhattan, Connecticut, Vermont, and now reside in Newburyport, MA. As far back as I can remember I’ve scribbled, sketched, and painted with and on anything at hand. I attended the High School of Music and Art in NYC, where I was an art reporter for the school, visiting studios and galleries, interviewing artists, and writing reviews of their work. After high school, I attended The Cooper Union, where I studied art and architecture and met my husband. While raising four wonderful and talented children, I took print making and pottery courses at the Silvermine Art Institute in CT. I did freelance illustration, print ads, and packaging design, for Collier’s and the New Yorker, as well as pharmaceutical and food companies. I also worked in NYC real estate and enjoy designing kitchens.

My painting has been influenced by my love of traveling, cooking, creating gardens, collecting art and antiques, owning an antique store in CT and a large farmhouse in VT. All these experiences, as well as the people I’ve met and animals we’ve rescued, inform my paintings. I am a member of the Newburyport Art Association, and they have honored me with several juried show awards.
